PTSD - posttraumatic stress disorder

PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder) is a type of anxiety that occurs as a result of excessive exposure to stressful events that go beyond the usual human experience.

What causes PTSD?

PTSD is caused by extremely stressful events, such as life-threatening danger, serious physical injury, terrorism, war, captivity, domestic violence, long-standing mobbing …

PTSD can develop at any age, even in a mentally healthy person.

The stressful event that triggered PTSD must be serious and extreme. Examples are civil wars in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, NATO bombing of Serbia and conflicts in Kosovo and Metohija.

Symptoms of PTSD

The main symptoms of PTSD include:

  • Reliving of a traumatic event and a “flash back” phenomenon, both in reality and in dreams;
  • Avoiding all things that resemble a traumatic event;
  • Changes in thinking and emotional perception – distancing from others, apathy, discontent, problems with concentration, attention and memory;
  • Increased arousal – increased sweating, increased pressure, tachycardia, disturbed sleep and a constant feeling of psychophysical fatigue.

PTSD and its impact on family

Unfortunately, unnecessary wars raged in our area that left many negative consequences on people. War veterans’ families know this very well, we believe that you know what we mean.

An exemplary man, previously dedicated husband and a caring father, returned from the war completely different. He becomes aggressive, easily annoyed, depressed, indifferent, and cold towards you, his closest ones. You do not know how to help him, and family relationships are getting worse. The children are sad, you are exhausted and frustrated, and the situation looks extremely hopeless.

PTSD disrupts the quality of life not only of war veterans, but also of his family.

War veterans often turn to alcohol, drugs and pills to feel “numb”, creating an additional problem. Our clinic VIP Vorobjev has been very successful in treating addictive disorders and psychological problems.

Treatment of PTSD

It is important that you know that you are the healing factor and that family support plays an important role in overcoming PTSD. However, the fact is that such serious problems cannot be solved without professional help.
